It is the aim of this paper to publish only such news items as are for the best interests of the institution. Hence we make no mention at this time of the disgraceful affair which occurred on the west campus last evening.

It’s worth noting that in the Daily‘s early days — but not earliest days — the newspaper was committed to promoting Iowa State and the people, believing putting them in a negative light was not in the college community’s best interest. If you wanted to read about not-so-great news, you read the Ames Intelligencer or the Ames Evening Times.
