A happy 130th birthday to the Iowa State Daily! To celebrate the milestone, here is the complete first issue of the publication, dated 7 August 1890. Included are scans of all eight pages and the text to every story.
The front page of the Iowa State Daily from 24 July 1969. The Daily only published on Thursdays during the summer, so coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing was three days after the event. The centerpiece story was a listing of the ISU alumni who were involved in the space race.
104 years ago, Iowa was set to vote on women's suffrage for a second time and on 5 June 1916. the Daily took a stand, telling readers to vote yes.
In 1909, the newspaper staff did a special issue. For one edition, the women on staff wrote, edited, and assembled the paper; the men took the week off. It was the first of many women's editions, which would happen annually for several years.
In 1970, on the eve of VEISHEA weekend, thousands of ISU students and staff and local residents marched against the Vietnam War and Kent State massacre.
